What will happen when you throw an elephant from a Skyscraper?
Gravity is an important discovery by Issac Newton. Objects get attracted toward the earth or the center of gravity. We have many questions about gravity. A common question related to that always arises in our mind that what if we throw an elephant from a skyscraper? Let us throw a mouse, a cat, and an elephant from a skyscraper below on a smooth surface. The mouse will fall and run away, the cat would die and the elephant will burst. Why does the mouse remain alive? It is because of its size. Suppose, we have an animal of the size of a Marble, having a length, surface area, and volume. We grow its length 10 times, Its surface area will grow 100 times and volume will grow 1000 times. The more your mass, the more kinetic energy you have when you hit the ground. The impact shock is higher when kinetic energy is more. The elephant has a high surface area in ratio to its volume, so a lot of kinetic energy gets distributed over a small space. So, the elephant would be completely destroyed. Insects have a high surface area compared to their small mass. So, they would not be seriously harmed when thrown and would not receive a big impact shock. If you shrink an elephant to the size of a mouse and enlarge a mouse to a size of an elephant, throw them both from a skyscraper, Then the elephant would survive and the mouse would burst. It is the size which matters. So, throwing anything of the size of an elephant will burst it.
